Reinhold “Reiny” F. Braunschweig, a WWII veteran passed away at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the age of 94 years.

Born January 17, 1917 in Plumas, Manitoba, Canada, Reinhold was the son of Otto and Lisette (Gerike) Braunschweig. He was confirmed by his father, Pastor Otto Braunschweig, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rural Aurelia, IA. After graduating from high school in 1936, Reiny worked for a farmer before being drafted in the United States Army in 1942 when he was 25 years old. Reiny received basic training in Company H 345th Infantry 89th Division at Camp Carson, CO. While stationed at Camp Carson, Reiny married Rosa “Rosie” Buddenhagen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs on August 20, 1943. He continued to serve in the European Theatre going to Liverpool England and Normandy. He was wounded in action in France and then again in Germany. Reiny was awarded two Purple Hearts. After being honorably discharged in September of 1945, Reiny and Rosie farmed in the Aurelia, IA area. They moved their farming operation and young family to Wisconsin in 1950 and dairy farmed in the Lowell-Reeseville area until retiring and moving to Ripon, WI in 1978. Reiny worked at Bohn Implement in Berlin after moving to Ripon.

Survivors include his children, Eileen (Bill) Borth of Reeseville, Wayne (Diane) Braunschweig of Beaver Dam, Richard (Michelle) Braunschweig of East Troy, Orlen (Cathy) Braunschweig of Randolph, Lois (Rick) Korth of Oregon, Lila (Lonnie) Lapacz of Green Bay and Linda (Bruce) Becker of Jackson. Reiny is further survived by 29 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Reiny was the second oldest of 14 children. He is survived by three sisters and three brothers, Anna (Herb) Huseman of Rice Lake, Cornelia Warkentien of Roseville, MN, Annette Braunschweig of Tavares, FL, Arnold (Betty) of Iowa Falls, Robert (Sharon) of Donahue, IA, and Victor (Oakie) of Mustang, OK. He is also survived by four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Braunschweig of Alta, IA, Nelda Carney of Rolla, MO, Beverly Braunschweig of Wall Lake, IA and Diana Braunschweig of Golden, CO, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Reiny was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rosa in 1999, one daughter, Jean Fabisch, one infant grandson, David Braunschweig, and one granddaughter, Michelle Braunschweig Selje. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Theodore, Ottomar, Gerhardt, Carl and Bernard, and two sisters, Elenora Honsbruch and Verona Fosdick.

During the years that Reiny and Rosie were farming, they were members of Salem Lutheran Church in Lowell, WI. After Rosie’s death in 1999, Reiny moved from Ripon to Juneau and became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Juneau. The visitation will be at Salem Lutheran Church on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The funeral service will follow at the church on Friday at 11:00 AM with Pastors Paul Hirsch and Bruce Becker. Immediately following the service, there will be a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall and time to visit and share memories with family and friends. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in the Town of Trenton, Dodge County, Wisconsin

During the last five years of his life, Reiny resided at Hillside Manor Nursing Home in Beaver Dam. His family appreciated the care and kindness that he received.
