Obituary for James Davis ""Dave"" Gum

James Davis ""Dave""  Gum
James Davis “Dave” Gum, 67, of 26 Krafft Lane Weston passed away on Monday, July 30, 2012 in United Hospital Center of Bridgeport following an extended illness. He was born in Salem on May 3, 1945: son of the late James Blair Gum and Zelma (Davis) Gum. On September 21, 1968, he married Rose E. (Kraus) Gum, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Michelle R. (Vernon) Hughes of Jane Lew and Kimberly (Sam) Blake of Weston, one son: James W. (Michelle) Gum of Weston and three grandchildren: Rachel L. Blake, Caleb Hughes and Maddysen Parsons. He is also survived by two brothers: Bill and Mike Gum both of Parkersburg, one sister: Sue Somerville of Parkersburg and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gum was preceded in death by 4 sisters.
Mr. Gum was a retired yard foreman and equipment operator with the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School. Dave was a Methodist by faith.
Mr. Gum enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. He loved watching sports. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Friday, August 3, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Tom Sears officiating.
