Obituary for Harold E. Brown, Jr.

    Harold E. Brown, Jr.
Harold Edward Brown Jr. was born June 21, 1937 in West Chester, Pennsylvania to Harold Edward Brown Sr. and Wilma Elizabeth Murray Brown. He was the oldest of six children, and proceeded in death by both his parents, and his youngest sister, Maxine Ella Brown.

(Eddie) as he was affectionately known grew up in beautiful Chester County PA. His father worked on a horse farm as a hired hand and the family lived on the owner's property in a quaint cottage which still stands today on Doe Run Road, Unionville PA. This upbringing exposed his children to the beauty of horses, cows, rolling hills, fields of hay and wonderful sunsets. It also exposed them to the chores of daily farm work-- some pleasant, most not! Eddie being the oldest saw more of the workload than the others and became less thrilled with the beautiful scenery after a while. Eddie went off to join the Navy in his mid-teens but was released due to a broken arm accident which disappointed him in not being able to serve his country. When he spoke of it, he said "If that wasn't bad enough, the only job I could find when I came back from boot camp was on a pig farm!" Eventually Eddie landed a job with Budd Metal Company formerly (Gindy Mfg. Company) in Downingtown, PA. Although the Brown Family moved to Wilmington DE in 1959, Eddie stayed on to work at Budd Metal and lived with his aunt in West Chester PA. Eddie eventually came to Wilmington in the mid 60's and worked in the roofing trade. He continued employment throughout his work life in various construction trades and trucking. In 1985 Eddie moved to California to be with this brother Ricardo and other relatives. There, he worked in construction trades and his experiences could be described as a real fun time in his Life! Eddie returned to Wilmington in 2003 where he has been living, and working until his health began to deteriorate in the past couple of years.

Eddie had an array of hobbies and interests. He was an excellent bowler. During his years living in West Chester, Eddie bowled with his Uncle Bill, Uncle Henry, and Uncle Abby on the Budd Metal Company Industrial League Team and competed in many tournaments within the Region. Also, he enjoyed all types of fishing, and would usually be seen sporting some kind of fishing hat! In his younger years, he had a passion for hot rod cars and motorcycles. Later in life, he enjoyed shooting pool, whenever he got the chance. Other leisurely hobbies included listening to jazz as he was an enthusiast and knowledgeable of the legendary artists. He had a real patience for complex jigsaw puzzles and would professionally frame each piece. Cooking was also in his bag of tricks. Even his sisters would inquire with him for a recipe, or that special ingredient to "pump up the flavor". His other passion was coin collecting and he accumulated a variety of distinct coins in his lifetime. Eddie's biggest interest, in the last 10 years, has been his best friend and loving companion Ms. Elease Reed who captured his heart. They have been a couple since that time and shared great times together!

He enjoyed watching football and TV shows, Animal planet, the History Channel and the Weather channel. Eddie also enjoyed supporting his favorite charity, St Joseph Indian School, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, Easter Seals and Ronald McDonald House.

Eddie’s personality was easy going and fun loving. His favorite saying is, "Hey, Hey Hey”, upon greeting you! He was certainly a happy go lucky guy.

He is survived by his siblings: Janet A. Sapp of Virginia, Delores V. Rios of New Mexico, Ricardo Bruce Van Brown of New Castle, DE. Faith M. Streett of Wilmington, DE. and (Brothers-in –Law), Isabelo Rios Sr. and Christian C. Streett. Survived also by his loving companion and (best friend) Elease Reed. In addition to a whole host of nieces and nephews.
