Obituary for Devon O. Burkett

Devon O.  Burkett
Devon O. Burkett, 68, of Everett, previously of Warrenton Virginia, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 from home.

He was born Thursday, September 28th, 1944 in Cumberland, a son of the late Orville Grant Burkett and Virginia (Lowery) Burkett.

On June 29th, 1968 in Washington, DC, he married Mary Hope (Darnielle) Burkett who survives along with their two daughters,

Janie Toprakci and husband Tamer, of Everett
Melanie Habibzedeh and husband Amir, of Alexandria, Virginia

Four sons,
Kevin B. Burkett, of Everett
Jason S. Burkett, of Richmond, Virginia
Brian T. Burkett, of Manassas, Virginia
Mark S. Burkett, of Los Angeles, California

A granddaughter Leela Habibzedeh
A grandson, Amir Habibzedeh, Jr.

And a brother, Thomas L. Burkett and wife Robin, of Umatilla, Florida

Mr. Burkett was an active member of the Everett United Methodist Church where he served on the board of trustees and was the Financial Secretary.

A graduate of Chestnut Ridge High School and Strayer University, as well as the Department of Defense Management School, Devon was employed with the United States Department of the Treasury and Department of the Navy for over 36 years until retiring.

He was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, the American Society of Military Comptrollers, and was an avid hunter and home handyman who could work on or repair just about anything. Devon enjoyed spending time on the porch watching the season’s change and the wildlife grow, always had a good joke on hand to share a laugh with you, and will be greatly missed for his sense of humor and caring, down-to-earth ways.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26th, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Everett United Methodist Church with Pastor Debi Decker officiating.

Friends may call at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, at the Church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com.

The committal service and burial will be held Saturday at 3:00 pm at Porter Cemetery in Hyndman.
