Melvin James Amaral
Melvin James Amaral, 87 passed away early Monday morning, September 9, 2013 at his home in Sanford, NC, with his family by his side. Melvin was born June, 13, 1926 to Anthony and Isabel (Cory) Amaral in Cotati, CA, the youngest of 3.
Melvin was married to Eugenie Heuschele Amaral in 1948 and resided in Napa, CA for over 50 years, where he and Eugenie raised their two daughters Karen and Kathy. Eugenie predeceased him in 2005 and Kathy predeceased him in 2009.
Melvin served in the US Navy in WWII and the Korean War. He was retired from Mare Island Naval Shipyard. After retirement, he began a successful career as a realist painter, well known for his Napa Valley Vineyard paintings. In his spare time, Melvin loved to fish.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Dougherty, grandsons Jeremy Jacobsen, Christopher Dougherty, Jonathan Dougherty, and his 2 great granddaughters Cadence and Aria Jacobsen, nieces Lana Haney, Linda Amaral, Peggy Lavelle and nephew Skip Offutt.
He will be entombed at Tulocay Cemetery, Napa CA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wake County Hospice, NC or a charity of your choice.
