Obituary for James Luther Gray

James Luther  Gray
Monmouth-James L. Gray, Sr., 77, of Main Street, Monmouth passed away at his home on Sunday Nov. 17th. He was born May 17, 1936 in Fayette the son of Howard Pearl and Clara Varney Gray. He attended schools in Wayne and Monmouth. On July 6, 1957 in Wayne, James and Lois Jackman were married. He proudly served 16 years in the U.S. Army. He worked as a farmer and also worked in the woods with his horses. James enjoyed training race horses, working with draft horses and oxen and working in the woods. He was a member of the State Fair Association and the Farmers Draft Horse and Mule and Pony Club. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois Gray, of Monmouth; his children and their spouses, James, Jr. and Torrey Gray, of Gardiner, Scott and Carol Gray, of Bridgton, Julie and Chris Lee, of Monmouth, Sheila and Don Penney, of Kittery and Ann and Rick Martel, of Auburn; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Douglas and Della Gray, of Lewiston; and four sisters and their spouses, Delma and Roy Dodd, of Nevada, Ruth Ann and Wilder Bailey, of Livermore, Donna and Harold Turner, of Norway and Becky Mercier, of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his parents; a grandson, Justin Robinson; four brothers, Richard, Bernard, Gary and Lewis Gray; and his sister, Nancy Ryan. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, Nov. 22 at BRAGDON-FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 707 Main Street, Monmouth.
