Obituary for Stuart F. Holland

STUART F. HOLLAND, USAF RETIRED
LIMESTONE

Limestone – Stuart F. Holland, USAF Retired, 63, beloved husband of Susan E. (Reeves) Holland, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, February 14, 2014 at his Limestone residence. He was born October 23, 1950 in Stoneham, MA, the son of Norman S. and Constance R. (Taylor) Holland.

Stuart served his country with the United States Air Force as an electrical technician achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant, being stationed in several locations including Guam. He retired from Loring A.F.B. after twenty years of dedicated military service. He was married to Susan E. Reeves on August 6, 1996 and after his military retirement became employed by the Limestone Community Schools and the Maine School of Science and Mathematics as a bus driver and custodian where he was adored by the staff and both past and present students. He was a member of the United Bikers of Maine and the American Legion O’Bar-Phair Post Number 127, Limestone. Stuart will be remembered as the first to help in time of need to friend and stranger alike. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed skydiving, camping, kayaking, bicycling and motorcycling, snow-shoeing, cross country and downhill skiing. He also processed great skill as a mountain climber and climbed Mt. Katahdin on several occasions. One of Stuart’s greatest pleasures was wood burning, constructing the trail signs at the Trafton Lake Recreation Area in Limestone.

He was predeceased by his father, Norman S. Holland; and his mother, Constance R. (Taylor) Flannigan; and one brother, Robert Holland. He is survived by his wife of seventeen years, Susan of Limestone; one daughter, Erin M. Holland; one grandson, Joseph Jon Vollano, both of Connecticut. He also leaves behind many special friends at LCS/MSSM who include; Peter Pederson, Dr. Luke Shorty, Larry Berz, Allyn Bernier, and Noella Bernier; as well as several cousins and extended family members; and community members of the Limestone area. He will also be sadly missed by his several feline companions.

A service to Celebrate Stuart’s Life will be conducted Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Limestone United Methodist Church, Main Street, Limestone with Pastor Ellen Cleaves officiating. Following the service, all are invited to share fellowship and refreshments in the church reception area. A committal service with full military honors will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. at the Columbarium of the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Holland to the Limestone United Methodist Church, 2 Burleigh Street, Limestone, Maine 04750. Envelopes will be available at the service.
