Obituary for Alison Olive

ALISON (BONNIE) OLIVE – Peacefully on Sept. 19, in her 89th year. Loving daughter of Mae and Lee Black; sister of Pauline; friend, partner and wife of Harold Leslie Olive, who predeceased her in 2010; extraordinary mother to her son, David Michael; mother-in-law to Maggie O’Reilly; aunt to Donna and Nancy; friend to, and greatly befriended by, Bill Frith, Al and Alda Cameron, Jean and Ron Schofield, Mary and Vito Ditta, Lynni Bronsten, and Allison Nowlan. Alison Black was born and raised, to age 13, in Nova Scotia, and then in the Beaches district of Toronto. Overcoming the adversity of severe hearing loss that began in youth, as her future husband, Harold, did, Alison worked in Toronto war factories, winning friends with her unfailing high spirits, a trait that would endure to the last chapter, at Shepherd Village nursing home, where for four years she was treated with dignity and compassion by remarkable caregivers. Alison and Harold’s great love affair was with each other, their friends, and a Canada that richly merited their patriotism. A funeral service will be held Tues., Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. at Shepherd Village, 3760 Sheppard Ave. E., Scarborough. Donations may be made to the Shepherd Foundation at the above address. “And may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
