I remember attending the ISTE conference in Philadelphia in 2011. ISTE, about 100,000 members strong, holds a conference every year for teachers to learn more about integrating technology in their classrooms. At a gathering sponsored by a major technology company at the Museum of Natural History, there was an open bar, lots of great food, good conversation, and really loud dance music. I don't have to tell you who was leading the charge on the dance floor. Tully was being himself, having fun, and showing off his moves, but he was clearly hampered by his bad knee. He kept coming over to me and telling me how much pain his knee was in, and I told him to take it easy, but he insisted on going back out. He HAD to be a part of the fun, he simply could not remove himself.
At one point, he called my name. I turned and looked and there he was grinding, on the dance floor, with the then female president of ISTE, who up to that point was pretty stiff and formal on the dance floor. Who else would have the audacity to do such a thing, but Chris? And the sly look on his face that many of us have seen... And the for the first time that night, the president of ISTE let loose and looked to be having a great time.
Rest in sweet peace, Chris. You leave the world a better place having had you in it.
