I had the honor of knowing Jerry Pippin; and his long-time friend and companion Roberta Scott is my cousin. Jerry was kind enough to let me stay with him at his place in Las Vegas for a few nights during one of my visits there years ago. I shared his love for the city's "excitement", and really enjoyed my visit. We spoke about the radio/entertainment business, UFO's and other things (I was a musician at the time.)
I had a car during my visit to get around town, and thought I had it "all figured out". Jerry however, suggested I get rid of the car for at least one day, and instead use the city bus to get around. He felt it was a better way for me to experience "the real" Las Vegas, and would give me a better feel for the city and its people.
I think he realized I was not used to taking city busses and probably thought it was funny that I was hesitant to do it. I WAS hesitant, but did actually take him up on it. I have ALWAYS been glad I did, because in the end he was right. My bus rides that day were very interesting, and a very positive experience actually. It's probably something I wouldn't have considered had he not suggested I step out of my "comfort zone" for a bit. Thanks Jerry! You will be missed!
