Carol Ann Orchard had a Scottish-Irish ancestry. Her maiden name was Love from her father Andrew Love. Andrew immigrated to Canada and settled in Toronto. The Love family belongs to the Mackinnon Clan which held the lands of Mull and Skye in the Highlands of Scotland. Its Clan chief’s heraldic motto: AUDENTES FORTUNA JUVAT (translation from Latin: “Fortune assists the daring” or “Fortune favours the bold.
Carol’s mother was Grace Knowlton. Unfortunately, we do not know as much about her ancestry. However, we do know that she was born in Ireland. The Knowlton family had origins in England, but during 1066 A.D. mass migrations occurred due to political and religious unrest. Grace’s ancestors migrated to Ireland during this upheaval. Grace also immigrated to Toronto, Canada.
