Obituary for Patsy Ruth Clark

Patsy Ruth Clark
Patsy Ruth Clark, 86, died September 1, 2015 in Canon City.
She was born in a cotton field on September 23, 1928 in Maysville, Oklahoma to John Seaborn and Mary Florence Lowe. One of five children, she lived in rural Oklahoma her entire childhood, attending one-room schools and graduating from high school at the age of 16. After high school, she attended Oklahoma College for Women. She and her family spent many years during her childhood picking and hoeing cotton, and working in the fields.
On March 19, 1948, she married Charles Robert Clark, who preceded her in death. At the time of his death, they had been married 65 years. She and Charles loved and raised four children, Mel, Melanie, Nancy, and Dianne.
Patsy devoted her life to her family. She is remembered for being selfless, wise, comforting, and strong. She led by example, had the patience of a saint, and never spoke an unkind word about anyone. Her family has fond memories of the wonderful meals she made for family gathering and her famous “Pat’s Pies.”
She and Charlie owned and operated The Bent County Democrat newspaper in Las Animas for 18 years. They were a team in both the business and family.
Patsy was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon. While serving the church, she prepared many meals and snacks for after-church socials. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for years.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Robert Mel Clark, Oklahoma City; Melanie (Mac) Jones, La Junta; and Nancy (Sonny) Smaller, Canon City. Her daughter Dianne preceded her in death in 1975. She is also survived by grandchildren, Emily (Josh) Payne, Bry (Katie) Jones, Brad (Corrie) Jones, Aaron (Rachel) Minor, and Paul Minor (Zoey Scheler); and eight great-grandchildren. She was loved and adored by her entire family and will never be forgotten.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at the Holt Chapel of the Garden, 806 Macon Avenue, Canon City. Burial will follow at the Las Animas Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
Donations may be made to Fremont Regional Hospice, 1439 Main Street, Canon City, CO 81212.
