Obituary for Dorothy R. Smith
Dorothy R. Smith, 92, of Lisbon, Connecticut, formerly of Jay, Maine, passed away January 2, 2016. She was born January 23, 1923 in Jay, Maine. The youngest of ten children born to Fred and Carrie (Lee) Spofford. She was predeceased by her parents as well as her siblings. She grew up in Jay, Maine and attended Jay Schools. On June 14, 1940 she married Harlan Smith, Sr. and had 64 years together before he passed in 2004 in Norwich. She was the beloved mother of Judy Marrotte (Robert) of Franklin, Harlan, Jr aka Sonny (Gloria) of Windham, Richard (Jane) of Willimantic, Jean Barile (Nick) of Norwich, Linda Kellogg of Norwich, Duane (Susan) of Lisbon. We were blessed to have her as our Mom. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great- grandchild. Her greatest love was of family and friends and was happiest when surrounded by them. She always had a smile on her face and kind word for everyone. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed, but always fondly remembered in our hearts. Dorothy loved to crochet and made beautiful afghans. She was a passionate UCONN huskies woman's basketball fan. She was also a member of the Lisbon Senior Citizens. Calling hours will be held Monday from 4-7 P.M. at the Guillot Funeral Home, 75 South B Street, Taftville. A funeral service will begin at 6:45 P.M. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
