Obituary for Raymond Garry Earle
It is with profound sadness that we announce Ray’s unexpected death. Ray - proud father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend; valiant coach of the Treherne Rebels; and unwavering Habs fan - left us too soon, at the age 69, while vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He touched innumerable lives, was loved by many, and will be sorely missed.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents William and Ileen Earle, his infant brother Murray Earle, and his sister-in-law Myrna Earle. He is survived by the love of his life Judy Stinson; children Dan (Donna), Sherri (Thomas), Lorri (Allan), Lisa (Jaime) and eleven grandchildren; step-children Troy (Darlene), Sherry (Jeff), six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; brothers Don (Shirley), Keith (Cathy), and Bob (Lynne); and many nieces and nephews.
Ray was born and raised in Treherne, Manitoba, along with his three brothers. He fondly recalled dragging his hockey equipment through the snow to the arena most winter nights when he was a boy. He spent his summers playing baseball and dreaming of pro hockey. He eventually tried out for the Brandon Wheat Kings, and was extremely disappointed to be released. Ray always kept busy with some form of sport, and he later took immense pride in coaching the Treherne Rebels baseball team, whose members tell stories of Ray’s enthusiasm and antics to this day.
Ray is remembered for his years of work at Earle’s Transfer, Dobbin’s Garage, Metcalfe’s Garage, and Imperial Oil (Esso) in Treherne. In 1999, he moved to Vernon, BC to begin a new chapter with his best friend and love, Judy, with whom he had a tremendous amount of fun. He quickly developed a new circle of close friends on their cul-de-sac and spent 16 happy and lively years with Judy, helping at her lotto kiosk, visiting with friends, working at Vernon Dodge, and perfecting his own wine recipe. He looked forward to his annual summer trips back to Manitoba with Judy, to catch up with his beloved friends and family.
Throughout his years, Ray made several trips to Hawaii, which held a special place in his heart. More recently, he developed a true fondness for Puerto Vallarta, where he loved re-connecting with the local people and friends from home year after year. When among friends and family, Ray was on cloud nine. He will be remembered for laughing so hard, he could barely deliver the punch line of the joke he was telling.
Thank you to Doreen Watson, Lina and Grant Gates, Pat and Ken Lawrence, Mort and Fran Mawby, Linda Marginet, Barb Godard, and Doug and Dixie Thompson for the support and kinship they so generously provided to Judy and Ray’s daughters during his sudden illness.
A Celebration of Life of Ray's life will take place on Friday July 15, 2016 at a come & go from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Treherne Delahunt Golf & Country Club. Everyone is welcome to attend.
