Obituary for Elbert "Bill" Dale

Elbert "Bill" Dale
Elbert “Bill” Dale, age 89, of the Crossroads community in Lebanon, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2016, surrounded by his children and family. 2 Timothy 4:7 – “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”.
He was known to everyone as “Bill” or “papaw” and loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a devout Christian and spent his life serving the Lord and working hard to provide for his wife and children. He was a member of Flatrock Community Church where he had served in many areas while able to attend. He was a Veteran of the US Army and a retired farmer, carpenter and construction supervisor. His passion was farming and he thoroughly enjoyed raising crops and tending to his cows. He was a man of great faith and never complained about anything as he knew that God was always in control and everything would be okay. He was deeply loved and will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.
He was the son of the late Rev. Ernest Dale and Magdeline King Dale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret Dale, or as he called her “Sugar”; two sons, Eddie Dale and Darrell Dale; two sisters, Kathleen Carty and Mary Alice Salyer and one brother, Fred Dale.
Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Doug Pink, Brenda and Lee Murdock, Carol and Patrick Perkins; Donna and Brian Stevens; five grandchildren, Karen Yates, Jennifer (Jamie) Surber, Amy Adams, Heather Barrett, Adam (Tara) Dale; ten great-grandchildren; Jade, Grayson, Cade, Trevor, Makayla, Julie, Emma, Braeden, Brysen and Abigail; siblings; Virginia Salyer, Ann (Wayne) Nunley, June (Ila) Dale, Carl Jack (Shirley) Dale, James Elliott (Pauline) Dale and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to caregivers; Myra Osborne, Phyllis Meade and Kim Musick while he was at home and to the wonderful staff at Commonwealth Assisted Living Sweet Memory Care Center for the excellent care that they gave him plus the love that he received from everyone. Also, thank you to the Wellmont Hospice House team for their support.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Owens Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Leonard Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.
Friends may visit the family at the home of Mr. Dale anytime on Tuesday, April 12. The family will also receive friends on Tuesday at the funeral home after 5:30 p.m.
