Charles Perry "Chuck" Miller III
Charles “Chuck” Perry Miller, III, 80, of Fairfax, VA passed away in Leonardtown, MD on May 29, 2016. Born on February 23, 1936, he was the son of the late Virginia Emerson Miller, and Charles Perry Miller, Jr. Charles was the loving husband of Louise “LuAnn” Libert Miller whom he married on September 16, 1961 in Washington, DC. Charles is survived by his children; Charles Perry Miller, IV. (Carol) of Yorktown, VA, Maura Sutton Genaro (Tony) of Cape May, NJ, Malia Louise Pappas (Steve) of Springfield, VA, Misty Virginia Decker (Mark) of Rhinebeck NY, Megan Marie Miller of Sterling, VA, Christopher Bernard Miller (Courtney) of Waldorf, MD, and 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Thompson. He graduated from Massanutten Military Academy in 1955, and the U. S. Naval Academy in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. His parents built a second home in St. Mary’s County in 1959 which he renovated in 1999. He served in the US Navy from June of 1959 to February of 1985. His duty stations included: USS Bauer(DE1025), Submarine & Nuclear Power School, USS Sargo (SSN 583), USS Casimir Pulaski (SYBN 633) Navigator & Operations Officer, USS SAM Rayburn (SSBN 635) Executive Officer, Naval Submarine School-Director of the Engineering Division, USS Casimir Pulaski(SSBN633) Commanding Officer, CNTechTra, Memphis- Submarine Branch Head, Naval Guided Missile School – FBM Training Director. Charles decorations include; Meritorious Service Medal- USS Casimir Pulaski (SSB633), Navy Unit Citation – USS Sargo (SSN583), Campaign and Service Medals; Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Marks Man Award (Rifle).
Charles worked for Armstrong Data Services as Vice President for 21 years retiring in 2006. He belonged to U.S. Golf, Boat U.S., Submarine League, and enjoyed Golfing, boating, fishing, traveling. Being with family and friends was his greatest joy...
The family will received friends on Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 9:00 Am – 10:00 Am in St. Aloysius Catholic Church Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM with Father David Baubien officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery Arlington, VA.
