Life Story for Steven J. Arvai

Arvai, Steven J., age 82, a resident of Brewster, NY, since 2010 and formerly Ozone Park, Queens, NY, died Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at his daughter Emilia’s home in Brewster, NY surrounded by his family.

Steven was born on November 15, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY to Andrew and Helen (Petho) Arvai. He attended schools in Brooklyn, NY. Steven proudly served his country in the Navy during the Korean War on the USS Intrepid.

Steven married the love of his life, Theresa Modzelewski on January 25, 1958 in Brooklyn, NY. Theresa predeceased him on December 4, 1995.

Mr. Arvai was a supervisor with Ogden Allied at JFK Airport in Queens, NY, having worked there for 30 years before retiring in 1992.

Steven enjoyed shopping, playing cards, gardening, hunting, antique cars and gambling. He enjoyed spending time on his farm in Mt. Vision, NY.

Mr. Arvai is survived by his two daughters; Emilia Tapinekis and her husband Dennis of Brewster, NY and Helen Arvai of Atlanta, GA, three sons; Steven Arvai, Anthony Arvai and William Arvai all of Ozone Park, Queens, His 5 grandchildren; Andrew Tapinekis, Theresa Tapinekis, Elizabeth Tapinekis, Lauren Tapinekis and Ava Arvai. He was predeceased by his son Andrew on December 22, 1988.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 noon at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY. Interment will follow. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster on Monday, September 19th from 4 to 8pm. www.Beecherfuneralhome.com.
