Edmond James Rutter, 86, passed away on October 21, 2016 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the Latter Day Saints Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Bishop Holyoak will officiate. Interment will follow at Perkins Cemetery in Perkins, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on September 21, 1930 to Edmond E. Rutter and Berthamae Martz. Edmond married Martha Darby on September 4, 1955.
He graduated from Stillwater High School and later earned his Associates Degree from Oklahoma State University. He also served his country in the Korean War. He worked as a supervisor for OG&E. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was always working in his shop and enjoyed restoring antique tractors. Edmond and Martha hosted OJAM at their home every year. Edmond was honored by the Oklahoma Selfbow Society and awarded a lifetime membership.
Edmond and Martha designed and built their home on property that Edmond’s great-grandfather acquired during the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889 by trading a shotgun for the homestead.
Edmond enjoyed traveling with the “Et-Al” group and spending time with his family.
Edmond is preceded in death by his parents and one sister; Gloria Lawson.
He is survived by wife, Martha; son Doug Rutter, and wife Audrey of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; daughter Charlotte Abel and husband Pete of Louisville, Colorado; sister Clarece Nance of Little Rock, Arkansas, as well as seven grandchildren: Aaron Abel, Dave Abel, Alyssa Abel, Bryan Rutter, Brandon Rutter, Brett Rutter and Brock Rutter; and eight great-grandchildren: Kaden Peppers, Teagan Radzicki, Avery Radzicki, Carter Radzicki, Johnny Rutter, James Rutter, Brett Rutter, Jr. and Orion Abel.
