Obituary for Donald Raymond Charron

North Stonington - Donald Raymond Charron died peacefully Dec.17, 2016 at home in North Stonington CT. after a long illness.

Born in Plainfield CT. Feb 28, 1928

Married April 7, 1951 to Lorraine Antoinette Cote.

Predeceased by his mother Yvonne, father Raymond, brothers James, Reynold and sister Irene.

Survived by his wife Lorraine of 65 years, 4 sons Mark and wife Sophie of Brooklyn Ct, Brad and wife Bonnie of West Haven CT, Michael and wife Patty of Griswold CT, Craig and wife Terri of North Stonington CT. 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 3 sisters.

Entered the Navy Sept 1945 and was honorably discharged Feb 1949. While in the Navy he was part of the Admiral Richard E Byrd Antarctic Expedition # IV Operation Highjump 1946 -1947, which was his most memorable experience in the Navy. The last ship he served on was the USS Putnam DD757 which was a destroyer and he was proud to be a Tin Can sailor.

Retired in 1990 from The Connecticut Light and Power Company as a chief lineman with 37 years of service. He was very proud that his son Mark and grandson Matthew followed in his footsteps and became lineman.

Donald was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish of Preston CT.

He was devoted to his family, loved boating and working in his garden.

During his last years of illness, he was cared for lovingly by his beloved wife and daughter-in-law Terri.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings-Gagne Funeral Home, 82 Cliff St, Norwich, CT 06360, Tuesday Dec. 20th between 5 to 7 pm.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday Dec 21 at 10 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 243 Route 164 Preston CT.

Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery Norwich CT.
