Obituary for Herbert E. Shepard

Herbert E.  Shepard
Herbert E. Shepard of Acton, MA died January 5th, 2017 at the age of 90. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, May L. Shepard and his children, Bruce C. Shepard, Suzann M. Beale, Patricia E. Follett, Bonnie
M. Moretti, and Richard H. Shepard. He was predeceased by a son Paul A. Shepard. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 3 great- grandchildren, and a brother, David A. Shepard of Warren MA.

Bert was the son of Charles and Marcia Shepard and was born and raised on the family dairy farm in Warren MA. Bert ran the farm after graduating from Warren High School and also while attending the University of Massachusetts, where he earned a Bachelors in agronomy. While working as a Middlesex County Agent, he was able to obtain his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University. He later became Federal Milk Market Administrator of the New England Regional Office in Boston.

He and his wife have been residents of Acton, MA for over 60 years.

He was a history buff, earning a Master’s in History, and doing extensive work on his family’s genealogy. Bert loved to travel and he and his wife traveled to 49 of the 50 states. He also enjoyed riding his tandem bicycle with his wife, May. They especially enjoyed the many rail trails across this country.
