Max "Poppy"  Sherman Jr.
Wilson – Max “Poppy” Sherman, Jr. was born September 3, 1925 in Lake City, MI to the late Mr. Max Sherman, Sr. and Mrs. Tilly (Sheldon) Sherman. He departed from this life on January 10, 2017 at his home at the age of 91.

Max was raised in the Lake City, MI area and then joined the U.S. Army during WW II and served honorably for 2 years, 2 months and 2 days. He was discharged from the Army and then returned home on the farm helping his father. At the age of 22, Max married the late Helene (Lewis) Sherman and to this union they were blessed with 4 girls, Catherine, “Little” Marjorie, Lori and Sherri. After her passing Max later married Nancy E. Langworthy on November 24, 1982 in Morristown, MI. They moved to Oklahoma in 1983 doing prison Ministry all over Oklahoma and Texas. During their Prison Ministry he made such an impression on the inmates they all claimed him as their “Poppy”. Max and Nancy enjoyed gardening, having orchards and helping others.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Helene (Lewis Sherman; and 2 brothers Dan and Dale Sherman and 4 sisters, Thelma, Shirley, Barbara and Ardith. Max is also preceded in death by numerous of the Lewis family.

Max is survived by his wife Nancy of the home; daughters, Catherine Bloom of Florida, “Little” Marjorie Helsel of Morristown, MI, Lori Murray of Ardmore and Sherri Monks of South Boardman, MI; sisters Lola Sherman and Evah Lenz; grandchildren, Josh, Damon, Tanya, Stephanie and Megan; 7 great grandchildren; and special friend Ta Ta.
