Obituary for George P. Gioia, Jr.

George P. Gioia, Jr., 83, of Berkeley Twsp., NJ died on Sunday January 15, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical center in Neptune, NJ. George was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in Manchester, NJ and the Poconos, Pa before moving to Berkeley Twsp., NJ in 2014. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. George was a carpenter for Union Local #20 in Staten Island, NY. He was a parishioner of St. John RC Church in Lakehurst, NJ. George was a 3rd Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus St. John Council #12940 in Lakehurst, 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus Assembly #1926 in Toms River, NJ and a member of the American Legion Post #514 in Pa.
George is predeceased by his parents George P. Gioia, Sr. and Anne (Raso) Gioia; his brother Peter Gioia and his first wife Dorothy Fogarty.
Surviving is his wife of 51 years Claire (Elliott) Gioia of Berkeley Twsp., NJ; his children George P. Gioia III and his wife Susan of Staten Island, NY, Michael Gioia and his wife Debra of Toms River, NJ, Robert Gioia and his wife Colette of Jackson, NJ and Stephen Gioia and his wife Tami of Toms River, NJ; his sisters Marianne Lignell of Monroe, NJ, Kathryn White of New Port Richey, Fl and Joyce Valli and her husband Dominic of New Port Richey, Fl; his grandchildren Jessica, Jennifer, Nicole, Danielle, Robert, Gianna, Addison and Owen and his great grandchildren Harper, Quinn, Finn and Charlotte.
Family will receive friends on Thursday January 19, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 145 St. Catherine Blvd. Toms River, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday January 20, 2017 at 10am at St. John RC Church in Lakehurst, NJ. Burial will follow to St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery in Lakewood, NJ.
