Gladys Martha Petrilla, 94, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on January 25, 2018 in San Angelo. Visitation will be held from 9am to 8pm, Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Shaffer Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m., February 2, 2018 in Fairmount Cemetery. Chaplain Cleo Ortiz of Kindred Hospice will be officiating. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.
Gladys was born in San Angelo, Texas to Lochie B. Jones and Curran King Jones on February 3, 1923. She went to high school at Lake View High School and graduated in 1941. She went on to receive a certificate in Licensed Vocational Nursing in 1968. She worked as a LVN at San Angelo Center Clinic Hospital and various nursing homes during her nursing career.
Gladys was also involved with the Adult Literacy Council, helping others learn to read. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening and yard work.
She was an inspiration to her seven children, whom she raised on her own, after having been widowed at a young age. She instilled in her children the importance of family, honesty and doing the right thing.
Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, Mike Petrilla; mother, Lochie B. Jones; father, Curran King Jones; sisters, Alice Gray and Sue Goss; and brothers, Otis Jones and Albert Jones.
Gladys is survived by brother, Shelby Jones; sons, Henry Petrilla and Elmer Petrilla; daughters, Jean Jackson (Jay Chaney), Loretta Smith (Frank), Louise Petrilla, Judy Petrilla and Chris Hartless (Bob Frey); eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
The family of Gladys wish to thank Kindred Hospice staff and volunteers for the compassionate and comprehensive care she received while under their care. In particular, the family would like to thank Jackie Freeman, Lisa Griffin, Tina Luna, Alan Prest, Reba Bove, Stephen Kurkendall, Peggy Hunt, Pam Darby, Cleo Ortiz and Jessica Fisher.
