Sudha, as her family called her,was my sister-in-law and a friend about whom I can write a lot,as I have many happy memories of our closeness. She was very fond of people and loved being surrounded by friends and relatives with whom she could share her thoughts and jokes. She laughed and smiled a great deal and often I would indulge in teasing her and enjoy moments of playful bantering. She was a deeply caring person and took on great responsibilities in her life. As a young girl she was a solid support to her parents and family and later on in life her support for her husband's relatives was exemplary. She was very appreciative of the gestures shown to her. Last time when she was in India for our festival Durga Puja she stayed with us and participated in the rituals that usually are a part of the celebrations. She was so happy to have been a part of it all, she kept on thanking us profusely for the opportunity. "Given my state of health I don't know if I will ever see Puja this way again", she had gushed. Was it a premonition? I do not know but I will miss her next time my brother-in-law comes through my door alone. Wherever she is may her soul rest in peace.
