Muriel Arlene McCarty passed away Monday, February 6, 2017, at home with her family at her bedside. Muriel was born October 25, 1928 in Bedford, MI to Harold and Bertha (Simmons) Rowden in the house that her dad built. She attended Bedford School through the 8th grade and then attended Kellogg Agricultural School in Hickory Corners where she graduated in May 1946. Muriel started work in Battle Creek at H.B. Sherman as a file clerk. Muriel was an active member of Country Chapel United Methodist Church in Dowling. On March 13, 1965 she married Charles McCarty who preceded her in death on April 13, 2012. Muriel is survived by her six children: Charles (Sherry) McCarty, Marlene (Jim) Francis, Alan (Marsha) McCarty, Sandra Kellay, Dennis (Barbara) Freeland, and Tracy Freeland, her fourteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, her special friend: Haroldine Colwall and several nieces and nephews. Muriel was also preceded in death by her parents: Harold and Bertha Rowden, a brother: Bob Rowden, and a grandson: Tyler McCarty. Muriel’s family will receive friends Friday, February 10, 2017, 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home, Delton. Her funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 11, 2017, 11:00 AM, at Country Chapel United Methodist Church in Dowling, Pastors Rick Foster and Ryan Wieland officiating. Burial will take place in Banfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Country Chapel United Methodist Church will be appreciated.
