Obituary for
Arthur William "Art" Cosh
Unionville, NY: Arthur W. Cosh, 93, of Unionville passed away on February 15, 2017 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. Art, a lifelong resident of Minisink Twp, was born on June 6, 1923, the 6th child of the late Ahithopel J. ‘Hipe’ and Elizabeth A. Cosh.
Art and Elizabeth C. ‘Libby’ of Quarryville, NJ were married on October 22, 1944 at the Methodist Parsonage near Sussex. The couple purchased farms on Cosh Road next to his dad’s homestead where they ran a dairy, beef, and forage crop operation for over 60 years. Art still lived nearby and could see the house in which he was born and land he had farmed for his entire life. He had traveled to many states in the US as well and Australia & New Zealand but always said he never saw any place else he would rather live.
In addition to farming, Art served on the Minisink town board for 45 years as Justice of the Peace, Supervisor, and special committees member. He was as a board member for the former Ag Stabilization & Conservation Service and participated in many Cooperative Extension programs.
He was one of the oldest members of the Minisink Hose Co. #1 Fire Department and served on the Unionville Cemetery Association for many years. But he still managed to find time for his favorite activity - card playing.
Art was predeceased by his sisters, Alice Slockbower and Helen Jacobs and brothers Thomas, Sherwood, James and Alfred Cosh. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Elizabeth C., sons John of Fairfax, SC, Gary of Burlington Flats, NY and Stephen of Salinas, CA; 4 grandchildren John Jr., April, Lanson and Savannah, and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Anna Zeman of Wisconsin and Marie Shea of Westtown, NY. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dee who took such good care of our husband and father.
Funeral services will be held Saturday February 18, 2017 at 2:30PM at Ferguson Funeral Home 27 Third St. Sussex, NJ. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 12Noon to 2:30PM. A reception will follow at 3:30PM at Minisink Hose Co. in Unionville, NY.
