Angela Gertrude Uhing was born to William S and Frances (Tingelhoff) Uhing on May 20, 1920 in West Point, Nebraska. When Angela was 10 months old, her mother passed away suddenly. She went to live with her maternal grandmother’s family until she was 10 years old. At that time, her father married Gertrude Kloke, and Angela joined them in their home outside of West Point. William (Bill) and Gertie had five children, 3 sons and 2 daughters. Angela remained on the farm with her extended family until she entered St Joseph School of Nursing in Omaha in 1943. She graduated from St Joseph’s in 1946 as a Registered Nurse. After graduation, Angela worked as a private duty nurse. While attending St Joseph’s she shared a room with Doris Stander who introduced Angela to her brother, Herbert. Angela Uhing and (Leo) Herbert Stander were married on October 4, 1947 at St Mary’s Church in West Point, Nebraska. Herb and Angie raised 4 sons and 3 daughters on farms near Manley and Weeping Water with St Patrick’s Church in Manley being their home parish. Their way of farming encompassed ALL ways of farming- raising land crops and livestock including hogs, chickens and cattle, not to mention extensive vegetable gardens and various fruit trees. Herb passed away in 1997 after a short but enjoyed retirement just a month shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. Angie moved into Weeping Water in 2001. In 2006 Angie moved to New Cassel Retirement Center in Omaha, and in 2015, she moved from New Cassel to Hillcrest Estates Nursing Home in Papillion.
Angie loved to play card games, dominoes, and bingo with her friends and countless games with her grandchildren. She only showed mercy until you learned the game and then, all bets were off. “That’s life,” she would say.
Angela Uhing Stander is survived by her children Leo (Linda), Raymond (Janet), Jane (John) Edwards, Thomas (Mary), Karen (Patrick Griffin), Mary (Steven) Bystrom, and Alan (Nancy); siblings Clarence (Gloria) Uhing, Mary Ann Schofield, Jean (Jerry) Malizia; sisters-in-law Catherine Stander, Joyce Stander, Pat Stander, Marianne Stander, Doris Howard, and Pat (Don) Templemeyer; grandchildren Jeremy (Sally) Stander, Lisa (David) Byers, and Elaine Stander, Dale Stander, Jeff (Janet) Stander and Brian (Kay) Stander, Ian Edwards, Angela Edwards (Aaron) Grant, Ben (Becky) Stander, Andrea Griffin (Ryan) Muldoon, Bethanie Griffin, Mike (Rebecca) Bystrom and Nick Bystrom, Rachael and Zach Stander; and great-grandchildren Liam and Henry Stander, Jay and Jackson Stander, Aussia, Chloe, Isaiah, Elias, Nevan, Ambrose Stander, Eleanora and Callum Grant, and Eva Byers.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leo Herbert Stander; her parents, William and Frances (Tingelhoff) Uhing; step-mother, Gertrude (Kloke) Uhing; brothers, Gerald Uhing and Paul Uhing; brothers-in-law Harold, Kenneth, Paul and Andrew Stander; and sister-in-law Rosemary Stander Bergmann.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St Patrick’s Church, Manley; The New Cassel Foundation, Omaha; or St Croix Hospice, Omaha.
