Obituary for Elmer Lautt

Elmer  Lautt
Elmer Lautt, 96, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2017. Elmer was born to Adam and Rosella Lautt on December 2, 1920 in Lehr, N.D. He graduated from Lehr High School and then attended Ellendale Normal College. He then taught elementary school for a few years before working full time on the family farm. In 1944 he married Muriel Hoirup, also of Lehr. They were happily married for the next 73 years. In 1948 they welcomed their first son, Terry, and in 1949, their second son, Gary. In 1954 the family moved to Lodi, CA. Elmer was employed by the State of California at the Stockton State Hospital were he ran the hospital farm, and later was in the shipping and receiving department. After 28 years he retired in 1983. After retirement Elmer enjoyed working in his yard and had a large garden where he spent many hours. Elmer and Muriel canned many fruits and vegetables from the garden. They also dried many peaches, pears, and apricots. He was active in many organizations including The Eagles, The Moose, and The Dakota Club. Each winter, for more than 30 years, he and Muriel spent time in Yuma, Arizona enjoying the sunshine and socializing with many of their great friends. Throughout his life he and Muriel entertained friends often. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for 63 years and had a strong Christian faith. Elmer is survived by his wife, Muriel; his son, Gary, and wife, Amy; grandchildren, Kaelia Lautt, Barrett, Lautt, Skylar Warthen and wife, Michaela, Cedar Rupp and husband, Derek; and great granddaughter, Raelyn. He was preceded in death by son, Terry. A graveside service will be held on Monday March 20th at 1PM at Cherokee Memorial Cemetery, Hwy 99 at Harney Lane.
