Obituary for James Jason Moore

James Jason Moore

James Jason Moore departed this life on Tuesday, March 14 at the Corsica Hills Center in Centreville, Maryland.  He was born in Easton, Maryland on Monday, May 29, 1978 to David Lee Rankins and Carolyn Ann Jones.  James, better known as, "Jay Jay", attended Seaford Senior High School in Seaford, Delaware.

He went to Job Corps in Baltimore, Maryland where he obtained a GED.  He received an apprenticeship in Plumbing.  Jay was a member of the Grasonville Boys Club, under the leadership of Rev. Mae Etta Moore.
In his youth, he sang in Prices, Maryland in the "Prices Male Choir" along with his four brothers, under the direction of Mr. Percy James.  Jay worked many jobs from construction to electrical work, plumbing, cooking and as a steamer. He attended the Love Tabernacle Church in Bridgeville, Delaware under the leadership of Pastor Raymond Taylor.  Occasionally he stopped by the Bridgeville Senior Center to eat lunch, attend Bible Study and lend a helping hand, if needed.  He had a heart of gold: a big heart. He was energized "like crazy". He loved to please others.  You could ask him for anything, and he would give it to you.  You could not tell him that your steak was more tender than his, because he could really cook a tender steak, seasoned with love.  Jay took pride in his work.  He had many hobbies, one of which was throwing out crab pots.  He would say, "Mommy, I got something for you" and that would be the catch for that day.  He had many friends of all races.  He had a "Mom Jean", a "Mom Mary" and a "Mom Lucy".  These women took Jason under their wings, and he lived with each of them at some point.  He said "I've got a "Pop Pop John" too, and he treats me like I am his own son.  Pop Pop John always remembered Jay on Christmas, making sure he gave him a gift.   Jay was unique and quiet at times, always thinking, and at other times, he couldn't keep his mouth shut.  We had a saying at bedtime: "Jay Jay ain't gonna talk me to death!"  When he came home he would always say "Mom, don't let Pep mess with my stuff". Those were his favorite words.  Jay will always be missed in our hearts and thoughts.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Firmaine Moore and Antoine Moore and one uncle, Alfred Cole. He leaves to mourn his loss his father, David Rankins, his mother Carolyn (Sylvester) Jones, two brothers; Mandrell Moore and Andre Moore, three sisters; Janay Smith, Sasha Samuels and Ebony Jones; a special friend, Heather Quimby, one son; Jordan Hines and two daughters; Sierra Hines Moore and Jasmine Moore, his aunts; Christine "Pee Wee" Askins, Mary Felton, Valarie Cole and Cynthia Cole and his uncle, James Cole.  He will be missed by many; Kenny West, Brother Daymond, Arnold Moore, Nickie, Amander, Tana, Joanne, Linda Beach Stephines, Mr. Terry, Shoe Shine Cindy and William Green.
