Dorothy M.  Burkhart
Dorothy M. (York) Burkhart 88 of the Franklin United Methodist Community passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017.
She was born April 30, 1928 in Carmi, Illinois to Theodore “Ted” and Effie Jane (Dowden) York. She married Harold L. Burkhart on June 8, 1946 at the Smith Valley United Methodist Church, he preceded her in death on May 2, 2014 having spent 67 loving years together.
She was a former resident of the Smith Valley Community of Greenwood. She was a 1946 graduate of Center Grove High School. She had worked for Public Service Indiana in Plainfield for 36 years retiring in 1984 as a clerical secretary. She was a member of First Christian Church of Bargersville. She enjoyed planting gardens, working in flowers and doing yard work.
Survivors include four nephews Donald Doty (Bev) of Franklin, Terry Doty (Jean) of Franklin, Dennis Doty of Greenwood, Kevin Doty (Cheryl) of Trafalgar, her niece Gloria Vansickle (Ron) of Trafalgar, several great nieces and nephews, two sister in laws Carolyn McClain of Greenwood and Judy Dillow of Franklin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant brother James Robert York, two sisters Mary Louise Doty and Gladys Schad.
Dr. Kenneth L. Rickett will conduct a service on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 10:30AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call Monday, March 20, 2017 from 4-7PM at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church of Bargersville P.O. Box 15 Bargersville, Indiana 46106 or the donor’s favorite charity.
