Obituary for Carol A. (Homer) Cruz

Carol A. (Homer) Cruz, 71, of Newport, RI, formerly of Charlestown, MA, died unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, March 26th, 2017.

She leaves her son, Robert M. Cruz Jr. of New York, her two daughters, Tina M. Connors and her husband Bryce of Acton, MA, Tracy A. Cruz and her husband Lou Perna of Colorado along with her 3 grandchildren, Sarah Connors and Xavier and Gabriel Cruz, and former husband Robert M. Cruz Sr. of Lake Wales, FL. She is also survived by her partner of 39 years, Frank DeLuca of Cranston, Rl, her brother, Thomas J. Homer Jr. of Burlington, MA, three sisters, Susan K. Gardner of Merrimack, NH, Nancy M. Ware and her husband Paul of Billerica, MA, Linda L. Castro of Boston, MA and many nieces and nephews, as well as a great-niece and a great- nephew. She was the sister of the late Cindy J. Wrenn of Malden.

Carol was born in Somerville, MA and raised in Charlestown, MA, the daughter of the late Thomas J. Homer Sr. and Beatrice L. (Carr). She attended local schools, was a 1963 graduate of Charlestown High School and later attended Bentley College in Waltham. A Newport, RI resident for the past 50 years, she worked as a bookkeeper for Bowler Van & Storage Company and then for several other local companies. She took great pride in her home, always looking forward to yard work and gardening during the spring and summer months. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting; a pastime that was truly appreciated by her children, grandchildren and siblings, all of whom received many beautiful afghans, sweaters, hats and scarves over the years. Most of all, Carol cherished the time she shared with her family, especially later with her grandchildren. Her loving spirit and warm heart will truly be missed by all who loved and knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rt 111) Acton, MA on Friday March 31st from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday April 1st at 9:00 a.m. in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington St. Acton. Burial services will follow at 11:30 a.m. in Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West St., Braintree, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Carol may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Boston MA-NH Office, 330 Congress Street, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.
