A lifetime resident of Canon City, Colorado, Kenneth Leon Cook was received into the arms of Jesus on March 23, 2017. Ken was born July 10, 1954, in Pueblo, Colorado, to Presley Leon and Betty Mae Cook. Shortly after, the family moved to Canon City. Ken attended all grades in Canon City public schools, graduating from Canon City High School in 1972. Ken was a member of the Canon City Rodeo Club, competing in all three rough stock events, including bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding for many years. He won several Championships and was known for being a good cowboy. Ken worked for many local ranchers in the Fremont County and surrounding areas in his early years. He worked at Colorado Refractory for three years, then landed a job with the CF&I rail mill department in Pueblo. He retired from the mill after 16 years, due to an auto accident on Highway 50.
Ken is survived by his mother, Betty Cook, of Canon City; sons, Ken (Lindsay) Cook, of Penrose, Michael (Sheena) Cook, of Waukee, Iowa, Jeremy (Amy) Cook, of Montrose, Jason (Shonda) Cook, of Canon City; daughter, Rayna Cook, of Gunnison; grandchildren, Steven Perry and Logan Shoup, of Penrose, Chase Cook, Chance Cook, Taytum Cook, of Waukee, Iowa, Cody Cook, of Montrose, Marin Clark, Alyson Clark, David Cortez, Jr., of Gunnison; great-granddaughter, Rin Perry, of Penrose; former spouses, Pennie Benton, Bambi Stewart; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many longtime friends.
Ken was preceded in death by his father, Presley Leon Cook; sister, Sharon (Cook) Toothaker, and son, Ryan Cook.
Memorial service, 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2017, Evangelical Free Church, 3300 E. Main St., in Canon City, Pastor Jim Thulson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken’s name to the national Little Britches Rodeo Association, 5050 Edison Ave., #105, Colorado Springs, CO 80915.
