Obituary for Virginia Hill (Sigmon)

Mrs. Virginia “Gin” Sigmon Hill, 81, of 1705 E. Greenbriar Rd Statesville, NC passed away at Iredell Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 31, 2017. She was born in Iredell County to the late Ervin Sigmon, Sr. and Margaret White Sigmon Scott on July 28, 1935. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Kay F. Jackson and two brothers Forrest White and William Henry Sigmon. She was married to Isiah Hill who preceded her in death.

She attended Unity School and was a lifelong member of Shiloh AME Zion Church where she was a member of the stewardess board, trustee board, usher board, deaconess board, flower committee and served as the Church’s financial secretary. She worked at Iredell Memorial Hospital for 30 years as a Certified Nurse Assistant.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a son Curtis Hill (Faye) of the home, a brother, Ervin J. Sigmon (Clara) of Statesville, a granddaughter Regan Hill (Alastair) Cudjoe of Durham, a grandson Jeremy (Emily) Hill of Salisbury, a great-grandson Wade Hill of Salisbury, several nieces and nephews including special nieces Teresa Sigmon (Eric) Lee of Clarksville, TN and Stephanie Sigmon (Rev. Will) Funderburk of Statesville and a special nephew, Patrick (Benita) Sigmon of Statesville, a host of great nieces and great nephews, cousins, special friends Betty Lackey, Ed Holbrook, Willa Tucker, Georgianna Williams, the Shiloh Church Family, neighbors and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 1pm at Shiloh A.M.E. Zion Church. The Rev. J. Ruth Davis will officiate and burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Mrs. Hill will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 11:30 a.m. where members of the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
