Obituary for Maureen D. Amenta

“A limb has fallen from the family tree…” Maureen D. Amenta, 79, wife of the late Paul J. Amenta Sr. passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Meriden on March 9, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Joseph O’Brien and Helen Shemet. Maureen resided in Meriden all of her life and graduated from the Meriden Hospital Training School in 1958. Mrs. Amenta was the Director of the Recovery Room at the Meriden Hospital prior to retiring in 1998. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church. Maureen was a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance School in Meriden. She was an avid crafter, painter and gardener. Maureen enjoyed swimming and camping but most of all, she loved being surrounded by family.
She is survived by her two sons, Paul Amenta Jr. and his wife Jennifer and Joseph Amenta and his wife Sarah; her 5 granddaughters, Samantha, Sarabeth, Leah, Sadie and Olivia. Maureen leaves behind her dog Max, her dearest friends and partners in crime, Helen and Janey; as well as many nieces, nephews, godchildren and “Mo’s Angels”. Maureen was predeceased by her sister, Sandra Carey.
Until we meet again, you will see me in the dance of the dragonflies, butterflies, fairies and the colors of the rainbow.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Friday, April 7th at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave, Meriden, CT 06450. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St. Meriden, CT 06450 on Thursday, April 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492
The family would like to thank the staff of Vitas Healthcare for the compassionate and extraordinary care and support they provided to Maureen and her family during her illness.
