Obituary for David H. Horton
David Howard Horton, 61, of Fort Pierce, passed away on Monday, April 3 at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
He was born to Eldon and Velma Horton on February 28, 1956 in Guymon, Oklahoma. His early education accomplishments spanned the globe, from Elkhart, Kansas to Tripoli, Libya and Rome, Italy.
In 1976, David moved to the Treasure Coast, where he met the love of his life, Rebel Barker. The two were wed on May 16, 1981 and spent their entire 35 years of marriage together as residents of Fort Pierce.
David was certified as a commercial diver at the Diver's Training Academy formerly located at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in 1976. He took great pride in his skills as a journeyman carpenter and was well-known and respected in the local building industry. In 1981, he embarked on what became a 35 year career in the Oil and Gas Industry. He was employed by Pool Intairdril as a Driller/Tourpusher in such foreign countries as Oman, Egypt, and Ecuador. But the majority of his career was spent in Saudi Arabia as a Tool Pusher for Nabors Drilling International. In 2011, he was hired as Rig Manager/Company Liasonman for Saudi Aramco, which continued through 2016. That same year he founded Horton Consulting Services, specializing in International Drilling Operations.
David Horton was the epitome of a family man. He enjoyed photography and traveling, but his true passion was for his family. He was a proud husband and father, but nothing brought him more delight than spending time with his grandchildren. One of David's greatest joys in life was being able to provide for his loved ones.
David is survived by his wife Rebel; son Jared (and spouse Kimberly Wauters); two daughters, Misty Black and April Wood; mother Velma; two brothers, Samuel and Wayne. He is also survived by his five beloved grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Eldon and sister, Jennie.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory in Vero Beach, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society.
