Condolence: Dr Sato was truly an inspiration to all of us, a pioneer in microbiology and an extraordinary human being who made a huge contribution to society and showed the rest of us what dedication to a cause can achieve, with personal effort and sacrifice.

Condolence: I was sorry to read in the LATimes that Professor Sato passed away.I met him over 50 years ago at UCLA when I was a junior faculty and applied for my first reseorch grant.He was part of a site visit team and I was able to secure the grant.He was compasionate,gentle and very supportive.\Since then I met him many times and he was always very supportive and interested in my work.He was not only a good scientist but also a very good man.He will be sorely missed.
