Obituary for Nancy R. O'Neill

ROCHESTER, N.Y – Nancy Ruth Oliver O’Neill, 65, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2017 at Rochester General Hospital, following a long illness.

Born August 15, 1951 to Ruth E. and LeRoy M. Oliver Jr. of Prospect Heights, Rensselaer, Nancy graduated from Columbia High School. After earning her LPN certification, she worked in various nursing homes around the state until she met the love of her life in 1983, Gary L. O’Neill. Utterly devoted to each other, true soulmates, Nancy and Gary were married on 8-20-83. They left the Capital District to settle in the Rochester area, where Gary is a Civil Engineer for the State of New York.

On 5-7-90 Nancy gave birth to her daughter Hannah, whom she adored, and who was the start of the family Nancy had always longed for. Three years later to the day, Nancy gave birth to son Alexander, whom she also adored. Her life was now complete.

Nancy was unfailingly kind, considerate, loving, good humored, a big-hearted person who would go without to help anyone in need.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents Ruth and LeRoy Oliver Jr., and by brother Kenneth, who died serving his country in Viet Nam, a proud United States Marine. She is survived by her loving husband Gary; daughter Hannah (Robert) Tanney; son Alexander; sisters Faith (John) Kalagias and Bonnie (Burt) VanBuren; and brother Lee (Jan) Oliver. Aunt Nancy also leaves behind many heartbroken nieces and nephews.

Calling hours concluding with a short service will be Thursday 4-13-17 from 10 a.m to noon at W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer. Interment will follow immediately at East Nassau Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Operation Christmas Child, Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607
