Obituary for Leon H. Brown

Leon H.  Brown
Leon H. Brown, 90, of County Rd. 20, Smyrna, NY, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017 at his home.
He was born July 5, 1926 in Smyrna, a son of the late Leon H., Sr. and Florence Warren Brown and received his education in local schools. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. On June 20, 1948, Leon married Betty Miller in Smyrna. She predeceased him on February 12, 2013. Leon owned and operated LHB Saw Sharpening for over 30 years until he retired. He had also worked as a millwright at Standard Brands in Sherburne. Work was his hobby, but he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, trap shooting and producing maple syrup.
Leon was a member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne; a member of the NRA; and a member and former chief of the Smyrna Fire Department.
Surviving are his children, Linda and David Campbell of Bolivar, OH; Arlene and James Nichols of Chenango Forks; Dolores and Brad Kruchten of Rochester; Laura and Timothy Foley of Marion; John and Wendy Brown, and Dennis Brown, all of Sherburne; Kevin Brown of Churchville; a brother, James Brown of Smyrna; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Barbara Vidler, Ethel Skinner and Edith Davis; and a brother, Charles Brown.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, NY on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 12 Noon to 2pm.
A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 2pm.
Interment with military honors will be in the Willcox Cemetery, Smyrna.
There will be a reception at his home, 782 County Rd. 20, following the interment.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association; Hospice of Chenango County; or to the Smyrna Fire Department.
