Robert D.  Smith
Robert D. Smith, 73, of Spring Township, passed away April 14, 2017, in Hershey Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth J. (Tobias) Smith, whom he married on May 29, 1971 in SS. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late George J. and Amy O. (Griesemer) Smith.

Robert was a proud United States Air Force Veteran who served from 1962-1966.

He was employed by the Reading Eagle for 44 years beginning as a Stereotypist and retiring as a Circulation District Manager in December 2010.

In his retirement, Robert loved volunteering for the Olivet Boys' & Girls' Club of Reading and was a devoted Reading High Boys’ Basketball fan and a member of Squires Club. Throughout his life, Robert was actively involved in coaching youth sports.

Robert’s passion was his family and helping children of all ages. He loved his sons and grandchildren and wouldn’t miss out on attending any of their activities or sporting events. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and person. He will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Michael, husband of Julie, Spring Twp.; and Matthew, husband of Siobhan, Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren: Jenna and Braden Smith, Spring Twp.; one brother: Richard, husband of Katherine, Sinking Spring; and sister-in-law Jeanne Smith.

He was predeceased by his brother George Smith.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 11 a.m. in St Ignatius Loyola Church, 2810 St Albans Drive, Sinking Spring, PA 19608. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading, is entrusted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Olivet Boys' & Girls' Club of Reading at 1161 Pershing Blvd, Reading, PA 19611, or Holy Family Church at 410 W Center St, Nazareth, PA 18064, to help establish a memorial in Robert’s name.
