Sister Rita Mahoney ( Sister St. Mark), a Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke ON, died in Pembroke ON, on the 16th day of April, 2017 in the 65th year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her Religious Community, her sister Jean Lajambe, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends in Pembroke and Sault Ste. Marie. Predeceased by parents James and Rosalie (Goyette), Sister Rita was born on August 29th, 1927 in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. She entered the Community on September 10th, 1952, pronouncing final vows on August 1st, 1957. Her previous experience in business management led her to the Accounting Department of the Pembroke General Hospital and later to the position of Business Manager for a period of twelve years. From 1970 - 1993 she held the office of Administrator and CEO. Sister Rita also served on the Catholic Health Association of Ontario (CHAO) and Ontario Hospital Association (OHA), on the G.S.I.C. Extended Council for Health Care and in Leadership positions for the Community. In retirement she volunteered her gifts and skills in the Hospital Auxiliary, the Boards of St. Joseph’s Non-Profit Housing and Carefor, as well as at Shalom Residence. In 2006 she moved to Caritas Residence, continuing to serve where needed and also assisted at Shalom Residence and other boards and Committees in the Pembroke community. Her final years were lived at Shalom Residence. Visitation at Caritas Residence, 215 Deacon Street, Pembroke from 9:00 a.m., April 18th, followed by the Funeral Liturgy at Caritas Residence at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. Columba’s Cemetery. Arrangements in care of the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Pembroke.
