Mr. James M. Tate, "Babro" 72, of 1102 King Street, passed away at Davis Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, following an extended illness. He was born in Iredell County on January 21, 1945, and was the son of the late James Mott Tate and Viola Reid Tate. He was married to Tracy Mott Tate, who survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Lisa Redmon and Anthony Harper, one daughter-in-law, Teresa Harper; one granddaughter, Heaven Jani Russell; a brother, O. T. Chambers and a sister, Ethel Tate.
He attended Unity School and was a longtime member of Miracle Tabernacle.
Left to remember and celebrate the blessing of his life, in addition to his loving wife, Tracy Mott Tate of the home; three daughters, Victoria Redmon and Tonya Tate, both of Statesville and Tammy (Martin) Wilson of Charlotte; five sons, Pastor Lonnie Harper of Statesville, James (Sophia) Davidson of Cleveland, Lucas Chambers, Frank (Katrina) Dobson and Lee (Samtya) Dobson, all of Statesville; four sisters, Carnell (Lawson) Garrison of Salisbury, Mary (James Jones) Neal Tate of Troutman, Dean Tate, and Betty (Joseph) Barnes; one brother-in-law, Gary (Sharon) Mott of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Cheree Mott Maxwell of Statesville; a special cousin, Oscar (Marilyn) Reid; special friends, Johnny Dalton, Edward Summers and WIlliam "Butch" Morrison; a special niece, Phyllis Tate; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbors, and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Sunday, April 23, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Horizon Church, Statesville. Mr. Tate will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 1:00 p.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
