FARMINGDALE, MAINE
James E. O’Brien, age 84, formerly a long time resident of Townsend Rd., Augusta, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 20, 2017 at his home. He was born in Lewiston, ME on December 9, 1932 a son of the late Michael F. and Alida (Berube) O’Brien.
Mr. O’Brien attended Lewiston schools and was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Augusta.
He was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
Before his retirement, Mr. O’Brien had been employed for 24 years at the Veterans Administration Medical Regional Office Center at Togus.
He was a life member of the Calumet Club, a member of Abnaki Council #334 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Abnaki Assembly #346 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #2 and the St. Paul’s Charismatic Movement.
Mr. O’Brien was pre-deceased by his first wife, Gisele (Poulin) O’Brien; his second wife, Margurite T. (Gabourie) O’Brien and three sisters: Jeannette Ellis, Katherine Honnick and Irene O’Brien.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Laurette J. (Cote) O’Brien of Farmingdale; a son, John O’Brien and his wife Jennifer of Kenai, AK; two daughters: Jean Dostie and her husband Marc of Sidney and Denise Marsters and her husband Scott of Canton; a step-daughter, Linda Drouin and her husband Steven of Waterboro; three brothers: Gerald O’Brien of Lewiston, Michael O’Brien of Marlborough, CT and Louis O’Brien of Auburn; a sister, Theresa Hughes of Milton, FL; seven grandchildren: Jessica, Aric and Sara Dostie, Colton Ryan Miller, Katherine Mary, Erin Margurite and Lauren Elizabeth O’Brien; seven step-grandchildren a step great granddaughter as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relative and friends may visit on Tuesday, April 25th from 2-4 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where officers and members of the Calumet Club are asked to meet at 2 PM to recite prayers for their departed member and Abnaki Assembly #346 are asked to meet at 1:30 PM to prepare for the Posting of the Guard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 26th at 11 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.
