The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Mariano Ramos can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence: First, my heartfelt condolence to Alma and family.

Mariano was a staunch member of the grassroots group, Waterbury People United Against Racism. This city-wide committee used to meet in the north end of Waterbury in the mid-1970s.

The killing of a number of African Americans by police at the time sparked this uprising of the people. Mariano was a key member with his foresighted efforts to involve the Hispanic community.

We all owe Mariano a big thanks for his contributions to this pioneering effort in civil and human rights in our city.

Muchas Gracias Mariano. Rest well
