RICHARD R. WARD

MASSENA – Mr. Richard Ryland Ward, 75, of Prospect Ave, peacefully passed away on Saturday evening, April 29, 2017 at the Highland Nursing Home, with his loving wife, devoted children, and beloved dog by his side.

Richard was born February 19, 1942 in Brasher Falls, the son of the late Burton and Gladys Adams Ward and attended Massena schools. On August 9, 1958, he married Donna A. Canfield in Norfolk.

Richard was a piston operator for General Motors for many years until taking the buyout. He and his wife than moved to North Carolina, where he worked in the construction field as a painter. In 2008, they retired ans moved back to Massena. Richard also built and raced stock cars for many years and he a very creative ability. If he had a creative idea for something, he would and could build it.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his children, Darla and Timothy Berke of Rochester; Margo Ward of Meban, NC; Candace Ward of Winthrop; Dickie Ward of Massena; and Beckie and Gaylord Bond of Norfolk; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Janet Canfield of Virginia and Janice Trainor of Winthrop, MA; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Wendall Ward on August 20, 2002.

At his request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Thursday 4:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Andrews Street, Massena.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
