He was a longtime member of the St. Clement Parish where he was an usher for many years. He was also an active member of the Yuma DAV; he was very proud of his sons and grandsons service to our country. John had 8 children with his wife, Dorothy (Ferns) Mayer who proceeded him in 1985.
John is survived by his children, Jane (Ralph) Pesonen of MI, Mary (Steve) Gaubatz of SC, Frank (Cathy) Mayer of MI; Daniel (Cheryl) Mayer of MI, Tim (Merlie) Mayer of IN, and Dennis (Denise) Mayer of MI; 33 Grandchildren; 22 Great-Grandchildren; Sister, Aurelia Evans and a host of nieces, nephews, friends from AZ and other loving family. John loved his family dearly; he spent a few weeks every year with all of them. He loved to go out to eat, sit at the beach, go to museums, and play games. He could often be found outside with a deck of cards playing solitaire. John loved his life and he lived it fully, right up to the end.
