Obituary for Armandine "Armie" Cornock (DePauw)

ARMANDINE (ARMIE) CORNOCK (Nee DEPAUW)
May 24, 1924 – May 4, 2017

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Armie Cornock. A long-time resident of Somerset, Armie died peacefully on Thursday May 4, 2017 at the Heritage Life Personal Care Home in Niverville MB.
Armie was predeceased by her husband Royd (Nov. 1, 2004); brothers Armand, George, Huberto, cherished sister-in-law Simone DePauw; and sons-in-law Larry Babcock and Bruce Cornock.

A devoted and loving mother and grandmother, Armie leaves to cherish her memory her children: Shireen Babcock, Mona (Remi DeCosse), and Nancy Brommell (Mike); grandchildren: Patrick, Leanne, Steven Pittet and Mona-Lynn Sillje, Jillian and Ryan DeCosse, Shaunda and Erik Brommell; great-grandchildren: Kayle, Aiden, Rhiannon and Tristen Pittet, Greg, Ben and Sara Anderson, Macy and Brynn Sillje; sisters-in-law Florence and Mariette DePauw; and brother-in-law Elton Cornock.

Born to Triphon and Martha DePauw, Armie had fond memories of childhood in St. Alphonse and would reminisce about being taught by the nuns and tobogganing down the hill. Armie’s first trip to Belgium at the age of four had a lasting impact on her life; she maintained connection to her relatives from the old country and cherished her trip to Belgium in 1986.

Following graduation from high school in Bruxelles, Armie attended Normal School in Winnipeg, and taught at schools in the area including Oak Hill and Swan Lake. Armie had a life-long appreciation for education and learning; many will remember her as their teacher or school librarian. She loved to read and never lost her ability to correct her daughters’ grammar.

Armie lived her life guided by her faith and principles. A strong believer in contributing to her community, Armie sang in the Church choir, was a 4-H leader and volunteered for many local events and festivals. A friend to many, Armie’s genuine care and interest in others will be deeply missed.

Prayers will be held on Sunday May 14, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the Notre Dame de la Nativité Catholic Church, Somerset MB. Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Monday May 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm with eulogy prior. Father Paulin Akpapupu as Celebrant. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Armie may be made to the Somerset Manor Box 354 Somerset, MB R0G 2L0 or the Somerset Library Box 279 Somerset, MB R0G 2L0.
