Condolence: As a new foreign student of Washington University, I met Professor Donald Burlingame in the fall of 1968. He helped me build a solid foundation in the field of mathematical programming, and later, also kindly enough to make a recommendation that allowed me to enter my doctoral program in University of California, Berkeley. Even though this happened nearly 50 years ago, I shall always remember him as a good teacher and adviser. We-Min Chow, Los Altos, CA
