We were only one year apart in age and I was Joe's uncle.  My nickname in the neighborhood was Uncle because of Joe.  It started when I moved to Bridgeport and attended Mark Sheridan Elementary school.  Joe was already attending the school and I was assign to his class room. We were in 5th grade when I first started. The first day of school I had to introduce myself to the class. Our teacher Mr. Kubal insisted that I introduce myself.  I said my name was Daniel Fabian. Mr. Kubal looked at me and stated are you related to Joe Fabian, and I said yes. Are you his cousin?? Mr. Kubal stated and I said no! so how are you related he said, I indicated I was Joe's uncle. He stood up and said his UNCLE!!! I said yes his uncle.  The rest of class saw Mr. Kubal's reaction and started laughing. How are you his uncle you are about the same age.  I told him Joe's father is my brother. Kids being cruel agian started laughing, because of the closeness of age they could not understand. Joe stood up and walked over to me and put his arm around me and said yep! he is my uncle Danny.  I could see every one was again ready to laugh but Mr. Kubal told every one to stop and told Joe and I to sit down. But I could hear students including Mr. Kubal snickering. From them on I was known as Uncle in the neighborhood a proud nick name I held on to for many years. People in the neighborhood to this day, some 50 plus years later still call me Uncle.
