With her family by her side, the good Lord reached out and escorted Marguerite Elizabeth Lorentson to the gates of heaven for an everlasting life of peace and love on May 24, 2017.
Marguerite Lorentson was born on October 12, 1924, in Rio, Wisconsin, to Clyde and Evelyn Bourret. Some of her earliest memories were of her father coming home to retrieve his pistol to protect the family bank during the great crash of 1929, and of family vacations at their cabin on Otter Lake. An excellent pianist, music was an important part of her life.
After high school, she worked in a factory supporting the war effort and later attended St. Olaf College in Minnesota where she earned her teaching degree in chemistry and met Lenny, the love of her life.
After graduating, she taught at the University of Wisconsin until her marriage in 1949. The couple moved to the Detroit area where Lenny practiced medicine, and they began a family. As a mother of three, Marguerite still found time to serve many roles in hospital auxiliary programs organizing fund raisers, as a den mother for the local Cub Scouts, and as an active member in the Methodist church. She enjoyed entertaining, camping, house-boating, and fishing, earning three master angler awards. One of her greatest pleasures spanning four decades was hunting with family and friends out West in the South Dakota area. She also enjoyed entertaining and was famous for her Scandinavian smorgasbords.
After Lenny’s retirement in 1988 and visiting many areas along Western Michigan’s coast, the couple chose beautiful Ludington to become permanent residents. Here they continued to enjoy hunting, fishing, and dining with new and old friends. Marguerite lived her life of 92 years with pride and dignity, remaining in her home overlooking Hamlin Lake until her death.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband Lenny of 59 years, parents, sisters, Patricia and Beverly, and her daughter Leslie.
She is survived by her two sons, Christopher (Dawn), David (Sharon), and daughter Robin; three grandchildren, Paul (Jenna), Brian (Cassy), and Heather (Matt) Mainprize; and one great-grandson, Henry.
According to Marguerite’s wishes, cremation has taken place. All who knew Marguerite are invited to Oak Grove Funeral Home, June 2, from 4:00-7:00, to visit with family and celebrate her life. (She was one tough old bird!) The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.
