Obituary for John J. "Jack" Kane

John J. "Jack" Kane
John “Jack” J. Kane, 76, formerly of Meriden, passed away peacefully into the arms of the angels on June 6, 2017 at his home with his wife by his side. Jack leaves his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Julia A. (Lalla) Kane.
Born and raised in the Fair Haven section of New Haven, he was the son of the Late John and Bridget (Ford) Kane. He graduated from Notre Dame High School of West Haven. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served his country from 1959-1963. Following his discharge from the military, Jack worked as a mechanic at United Illuminating and retired in 1996.
After marrying the love of his life, he moved to Meriden to raise his family. He was the proud father of three. His children will miss his wit and charm but will live on by his example. He leaves behind two daughters, Tricia Camara, Cheryl (Jeffrey) Belair, and one son, Michael (Diane) Kane all of Meriden.
Papa Jack, as he was fondly called, cherished his grandchildren the most. He always called them his “Pride and Joy” and never missed a family event, sporting event or dance recital and was always their biggest fan. He will be sorely missed by his seven grandchildren, James (Dianna) Camara, Alex Pelegano, Jessica Camara, all of Meriden, Bobbie (Irving Acevedo) Pelegano of New Jersey, Alyssa (Vincent) Prioleau, Shannon Kane, and Joseph Kane all of Meriden. He also leaves behind three adopted grandchildren, Daniel
, Natalie and Emily Strout of Wallingford. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Nathan Prioleau, Adam and Charlotte Pitcher and soon-to-be Baby Boy Camara, all of Meriden
Several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Lalla family as well as several nieces and nephews, who will cherish their memories of Uncle Jack, also survive him. He was predeceased by his sister, Linda (Kane) O’Connell and his sons-in-law, James Camara and Robert Pelegano, Jr.
Jack – your family will miss you and you are the true meaning of “Semper Fi”. Jack’s family wishes to thank the staff of VITAS Hospice for their care and compassion.
The funeral will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning prior to the service from 9 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
